Mitt Romney and the 10th Article of Faith

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

Apparently, Mitt forgot to learn this in Primary.

Well, you need to do your homework before going down the mislead path as George did. He was wrong in his report, and he probably did it on purpose. I am not surprised how many people do not know what they are talking about regarding Mormons.

I watched the interview Sunday Morning - before I went to church. Mitt was correct when he said Christ will return to the Mt. of Olives. He was speaking in context of his initial return to the earth to rain for 1000 years. He did not get into the doctrine that the New Jerusalem would be in the U.S. He did not deny it, but it was clear he did not want to get into the doctrine without the time or ability to explain it in detail. The doctrine is this --- Are you ready?
Christ will return to the WORLD and rain 1000 years before final judgment. There will be two Jerusalems. The old one and a "New Jerusalem" in the U.S. the doctrine continues to say that the Lord will be make Jerusalem his home while his Law will come from the New Jerusalem. Why would this be, you may ask? Well it's clear, Christ is Jewish and will live and make his home there - in Jerusalem. However, His Church is headquartered in the U.S. (The Mormon Church) and that will not change. Mormons believe that the whole reason the U.S. came to be was for this very reason, to establish Christ's restored Church and spread the Gospel to the World. Crazy I know - but it's what they believe. Thank goodness the U.S. Constitution gives Mormons the freedom to believe such things. So don’t be a bigot!!

Mr. Stephanopoulos said to Mr. Romney that his understanding was that "Jesus will return probably to the United States and reign on earth for 1,000 years." This IS a Mormon belief. While Jesus may live in Jerusalem, He WILL make many appearances to the United States (according to Mormon beliefs). When Mr. Stephanopoulos said this, Romney replied, "that doesn't happen to be a doctrine of my church." I don't know what you are thinking, because that does seem like a denial to me.

Re: your info on President Hinckley the Prophet of "The Church of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"
FYI President Hinckley will soon be 97 and at least you could pay the respect of addressing him properly. It's Prophet, even tho you have other motives.
It's to bad you don't really know the man nor his or his heart.

I have been doing some reading on the subject, and I haven’t really found any indication that the second coming per se will be in Missouri. Malachi 3:1 and Doctrine and Covenants 36:8 state that the Lord will “suddenly come to his temple.” McConkie (pp. 694-4; 696) regards this to be at least partially fulfilled by Christ’s appearance in the Kirtland Temple, but also looks to a future fulfillment in the Temple in Jackson County. This appears to be a private appearance, and BRM specifically states that the appearance in the temple “does not have reference to his appearance at the great and dreadful day, for that coming will be when he sets his foot upon the Mount of Olives.”

There are also references to Christ appearing at the Grand Council at Adam-Ondi-Ahman (McConkie 694; Teachings 157) and receiving the keys from Adam, but this also appears to be a private appearance occurring *prior* to the second coming.

McConkie (pp. 696-7) quotes Zechariah 14:3-4 as a reference for the second coming on the Mount of Olives, and indicates that he will *subsequently* appear “upon the mighty ocean, even the great deep, and upon the islands of the sea and upon the land of Zion. And he shall utter his voice out of Zion and shall speak from Jerusalem, and his voice shall be heard among all people.” (Doctrine and Covenants 133:20-21)

The tenth Article of Faith doesn’t refer to the second coming, but to the establishment of the New Jerusalem.

What I get from all that is that the second coming as such will be on the Mount of Olives, but that there will be prior private appearances in Jackson County and elsewhere. After the second coming, he is expected to appear in various places throughout the world (including Missouri), and to reign during the millennium from both the Old and New Jerusalems.

In short, I don’t think Romney is incorrect in locating the second coming strictly on the Mount of Olives, although clearly it is taught that there will be appearances both before and after the second coming in Missouri and elsewhere.

Looks like YOU didn't learn something in Primary. I believe you owe Mitt an apology.

Satin is working hard, as he always has, to discredit the Mormon church. Why don't you go pick on the Jews for a while.

Who's "Satin"?

Isn't that a fabric?
